Calvin Jones, of Jacksonville, FL passed away on February 18, 2024. Calvin was born to his parents Mr. Neura and Mrs. Vera Jones in Jacksonville, FL. Calvin was educated in the Duval County Public School System and graduated from Robert E. Lee High School, Class of 1974. Calvin was a devoted member at The Sanctuary at Mt. Calvary. Calvin faithfully served on the following ministries: Men’s Ministry Leader, Youth Mentor Leader, Video Communications, Clothing & Food, Bereavement, Usher Board, Men’s Choir, Youth Mission, Sunday School, BTU, and Vacation Bible School.
Calvin Jones enlisted in the United States Navy in July 1974 and received an honorable discharge for his service to his country. After his active-duty Navy career, he began his civil service employment at the Naval Air Station Jacksonville (NAS) holding several positions and retired after 35 years of dedicated service from the position of Command Security Manager at NAVCOMTELSTA, Jacksonville, FL. Calvin was also employeed at Camp Blanding Joint Training Center and Jacksonville Aviation Authority (JAA)
Chief Master Sergeant Calvin Jones joined the Florida Air National Guard in 1983 and served in various positions culminating to the rank of Chief of Operations, 125th Civil Engineering Squadron. In April 2008, Chief Jones retired and was Honorably Discharged from the Florida Air National Guard. Chief Jones was awarded from the Department of the Army and the Air Force, National Guard Bureau, Certificate of Service in recognition of 31 years of service in the Armed Forces of the United States, including 25 years of service in the National Guard. Chief Jones was awarded this certificate as a testimonial of Honest and Faithful Service.
Chief Jones' deployments included Germany, Spain, Honduras, Buckland Alaska, Arizona, Minnesota, Volk Field Wisconsin, Mildenhall England, Cold Lake Canada, Azores, Iraq, and Israel. Chief Jones' most memorable miliary experience: Serving on an Honor Guard team in Iraq.
After Chief Jones' retirement he enjoyed his leisure time deep sea fishing; attending Jaguars and Gator games; listening to gospel and jazz music; traveling; and entertaining his family with cookouts. He loved his favorite role, spending time being Papa CJ to Maxwell Jones.
Chief Jones and Maxine Jones were married, and this union was blessed with a son, Calvin Michael Jones (aka Lil' Calvin).
Chief Jones was predeceased by his parents, wife, sisters Mrs. Jessie Bell Walden and Mrs. Martha Ingram, and godbrother Charles Fleming.
Chief Jones is survived by his beloved son: Calvin M. Jones (Teanna); grandson: Maxwell Anthony Jones; sisters: Neura Jones Simpo (Glenn), and Shirley Jones; Nieces: Detra Simpo, Annie Doris Brazil and Annie Lois Rodriques; Nephews: Glenn M. Simpo, II (Christina), Arthur, James, Randell, Tommy Lee Walden and Todd Almond; great-nieces: Helen Simpo and Faith Simpo; great-nephew: Ian Simpo and a host of dearly beloved great-nieces and great-nephews, cousins, other family members, and friends including Mr. & Mrs. Eddie Hillsman, Mr. & Mrs. Willie Teamer, Mr. & Mrs. George Barnes, Mr. & Mrs. James Frazier and Ms. Janice Fitzpatrick.
A visitation will be held on Thursday, March 7, 2024, 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., at Aaron and Burney Bivens Funeral Home, 529 Kingsley Avenue, Orange Park, FL 32073. Graveside services with military honors will be held Friday, March 8, 2024, 10:30 a.m., at Jacksonville National Cemetery, 4083 Lannie Road, Jacksonville, FL 32218.
